Buildbase BMW pair James Westmoreland and Jon Kirkham are planning a two-pronged attack on their MCE British Superbike opposition at Oulton Park in an effort to get both their S1000Rs into a Showdown spot.
The duo are tied on 100 points, just ten down on Samsung Honda's Ryuichi Kiyonari and another ten behind James Ellison's Milwaukee Yamaha. Kirkham grabbed a podium at the Cheshire track last time out while Westmoreland has been building his pace over the season with regular top-six finishes.
“The last four rounds have been very solid, I’ve been consistently high up the rankings and the bike is in fantastic form. Whereas Jon had a great result at Oulton Park earlier this year, I had a slightly less pleasant weekend," said professional northerner Westmoreland.
"It’ll be good to get out there and banish those ghosts with three great results. We’re focusing on the riders immediately ahead of us now, we are very close behind them in the championship and the plan is to try and catch up and, perhaps, get two riders firmly into the top six for the Showdown.”
Kirkham added: “After a couple of slightly shaky rounds, a DNF at Knockhill and a nasty crash at Snetterton, it was a big relief to have two top-six results at Brands Hatch. While I was a bit disheartened by qualifying 18th, finishing that race in sixth felt fantastic! I’m very pleased we’re going back to Oulton Park, last time there I took two fourth-place results and any improvement on that would be a podium.
“I think I could do a lot of damage around there on my S 1000 RR if everything goes right. Mind you, I guess I could do a lot if it goes wrong! We are in a great place in the championship, and to be in the same position – and on the same points – as James shows that the bikes are really on top form. I’m aiming to stay in the top six and further extend our lead.”
