Jason O’Halloran - Championship position: 4th - Points: 178 - Podium credits: 3
Australian Jason O’Halloran has claimed his place in the current MCE British Superbike top six by doing joining Peter Hickman as the only two Showdown contenders to score points in every race so far this year.
This is no mean feat in itself, given the level of competition, but Wollongongongongong rider has, along with Dan Linfoot, had to develop the 2018 SP2 along the way. Taking fourth place in the BSB points table, while the Fireblade has failed in almost every other arena this season, has come about through patience and determination.
O’Halloran has picked up three podiums this season so his podium credit total doesn’t rival those about him at Silverstone, he should be able to pick up some more.
“I knew when we started the season that it wouldn’t be straight forward as we knew we would development work to do with the new Fireblade, but we have been building and scoring consistently even when we have had a tough weekend. I would definitely like to have won a race by now and scored some more podiums but the important thing is that we are here and fighting for a position in the Showdown,” said O’Halloran.
“I love Silverstone; last year it was my first race back in six months and I just missed out on pole position, so it has been a strong circuit for the Honda in the past. It is one of those tracks that it should suit and I think we can come out next weekend and have three strong races. Once you are in the Showdown it is anyone’s game, but I feel that we deserve to be there.
“I am just focusing one race at a time and I am going out to do the best job I can for Honda Racing. I think it will be a round where everyone will be pushing the boundaries a bit more; myself, Josh [Brookes] and Luke [Mossey] are not as safe as the guys in front of us so we need to really attack the weekend as usual with a clear head and remain as consistent as possible.”
