Championship contenders:
With Ai Ogura and Fermin Aldeguer moving up to MotoGP in 2025 two of the favourites for the 2024 Moto2 title will be gone. This opens up the 2025 Moto2 title to new and old contenders.
Sergio Garcia will remain in the Moto2 class for 2025 despite previously leading the Championship in 2024. With more experience under his belt and a point to prove, the Spaniard will be the favourite for the 2025 title.
Jake Dixon has moved teams for 2025 as he heads off to the ELF Marc VDS squad. This will not only be a new team for the British rider but a new chassis as he switches to the Boscoscuro chassis. After a tough start to 2024, Dixon has further cemented himself as a Moto2 contender after winning two races.
Alonso Lopez and Celestino Vietti will join forces in the Speed Up Racing Team in 2025. Lopez will remain with the team for his third year and will become the lead rider after Aldeguer departs. Vietti on the other hand will be joining his third different team in three years after departing from the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad.
Rookie Sensations:
The Moto2 field will be bolstered by an exciting new crop of rookie riders. However, in 2025 they will not only be coming from Moto3 but also from World Supersport.
The most anticipated Moto2 rookie for 2025 will be the new CFMoto Aspar rider, David Alonso. The Colombian rider will most likely arrive in the class as a Moto3 World Champion as he has dominated the class in 2024. Alonso has impressed many people, including Marc Marquez, in 2024 and some even expect him to challenge for the title in 2025.
As well as the potential reigning Moto3 Champion moving to Moto2 there could also be a reigning World Supersport Champion on the grid. The Aruba.it Racing - Ducati WorldSSP rider Adrian Huertas is on his way to Moto2 for 2025. After being overlooked by teams in World Superbikes the Spaniard has joined the Italtrans Racing Team.
Other names moving up from Moto3 to keep an eye on are Ivan Ortola in the MT Helmets -MSi squad. Daniel Holgado is also moving up to Moto2 alongside Alonso in the CFMoto Aspar Team. Then finally the Dutch Moto3 sensation Collin Veijer will enter the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad.
Moto2 Rumours:
There are still six Moto2 seats available for the 2025 season, some of these seats are in competitive teams.
IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia:
The IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia seats are available with Somkiat Chantra moving to MotoGP and Mario Aji has not re-signed for 2025. The team will almost definitely sign two Asian riders with the following riders seeming the best options. Aji could re-sign for a second season, but he sits 29th in the 2024 Moto2 standings.
Looking at the Moto3 grid there are two realistic options available for the Moto2 team. Ryuesi Yamanaka is yet to re-sign with the MT Helmets - MSi squad in Moto3 for 2025 and as the top Japanese rider in Moto3, he could get promoted to Moto2. Taiyo Furusato is a Honda Team Asia rider in Moto3 who is currently 11th in the Championship. Furusato has had his best Moto3 season in 2024 and his build would better suit a Moto2 machine in 2025.
Pramac Racing:
For 2025 Pramac Racing is expected to replace the Yamaha VR46 MasterCamp squad in Moto2. Pramac's new middleweight team will be backed by Yamaha as they create the Pramac Yamaha Racing Moto2 Team.
The team is yet to sign a rider for the 2025 season, but Tony Arbolino will likely sign with the team. The Italian did not re-sign with the ELF Marc VDS Team and is without a ride for the 2025 season. The Moto2 race winner seems all but confirmed with the new team.
There are fewer rumours surrounding the second Pramac Yamaha Moto2 rider. It was expected that Roberts or Lopez could move to the team, but they will stay in their current teams for 2025.
Izan Guevara and Barry Baltus could be on Pramac's radar as they don't have a ride for 2025. But neither of these has been heavily linked with the team.
Fantic Racing:
The final Fantic Racing Team ride for the 2025 Moto2 season could be an obvious choice. In the 2024 FIM Moto2 European Championship Roberto Garcia leads the Championship with two rounds to go. The Spaniard rides for Fantic Cardoso Racing it's likely he will be promoted to the Moto2 World Championship.
Preicanos Racing:
Jaume Masia will remain with the Preicanos Racing Team but Bo Bendsneyder has left the squad. Like Fantic Racing, Preicanos Racing could sign their new rider from the FIM Moto2 European Championship. Preicanos Racing have used Daniel Munoz throughout the 2024 Moto2 season and could sign him to the team full-time in 2025.
Returning to Moto3?:
Rumours have been spreading around the MotoGP paddock that Dennis Foggia could move back to Moto3. The former Moto3 World Champion has never adapted to Moto2 despite being in the Italtrans squad. Foggia has been replaced by Huertas for 2025 and talks have happened between the Italian and the MLav Racing Team
