Aleix Espargaro Out of MotoGP Dutch TT After Sprint Crash

Gold and Goose

Aleix Espargaro has withdrawn from this weekend's MotoGP Dutch TT after he sustained an injury to his hand in the Sprint.

On the final lap of Saturday's Dutch Sprint, Espargaro was chasing Fabio Di Giannantonio when he fell at the fast penultimate turn, Ramshoek. Assessments made on his condition on Saturday evening confirmed a fractured metacarpal for Espargaro.

Espargaro was declared fit to ride in the Sunday morning warm-up session, but elected to withdraw from the weekend to allow his injury a better opportunity to heal.

The Spaniard, who will retire from full-time racing at the end of 2024, has six days to recover before practice for the German Grand Prix next Friday. After that, MotoGP enters its summer break.

Espargaro is not the only Aprilia rider to be missing from Sunday's grid, as test rider and wildcard Lorenzo Savadori picked up multiple vertebrae fractures when he crashed in Saturday's Dutch Sprint, which saw him declared unfit on the spot.
