Alex Marquez shares his thoughts on the factory Ducati's using the GP24 engine

Gold & Goose

Ducati's decision to discard its 2025 MotoGP engine has left all six of its riders on the 2024 engine.

Alex Marquez was a surprise front-runner during the MotoGP pre-season as he finished in the top three of every test session.

However, the big news inside the Ducati family from the 2025 pre-season was the factory Ducati's engine choice. The Italian manufacturer decided to discard their GP25 engines and chose to continue with the GP24 engine.

This was not a decision that impacted Alex Marquez as he would have used a GP24 engine no matter what. However, it does mean that all six Ducati riders will be using the GP24 engine, which the younger Marquez brother believes could benefit him in 2025.

"It’s a good thing [for me] because we can compare a little bit and it will be more equal,” said Marquez.

"I hope during the season they will not improve a lot! Because we have what we have now until the end. But apart from that, the 2024 bike is really nice to ride and it’s difficult to improve upon it.

"Also, they can’t take the risk to decide on [a new] engine for 2025 and 2026 if they don’t see clearly [the advantages]. It’s better to keep the 2024 that you know is working really well."

During pre-season, Marquez established himself as an early contender as he topped the Barcelona Test and the final day of the Sepang Test, but finished second to his brother Marc Marquez in the Buriram Test.

But his true potential will be seen at the season opener which takes place between the 28th of February and the 2nd of March.
