Marc Marquez returned to winning ways with a consummate route to victory in the Aragon MotoGP Sprint Race, while Pecco Bagnaia suffered his fourth non-score five races.
A seventh win on a Saturday from eight events, while Marquez was made to work hard for victory initially after being muscled down to fourth through the first turns, but once he was in front from lap six he was untouchable.
The hot favourite coming into the race after blitzing the lap record in qualifying, wheelspin off the line was followed by a firm rub from Pedro Acosta to put Marquez onto the back foot in the funnel to the tight first turn left-hander.
Leaving him fourth briefly, Marquez was soon back up to third as he trailed brother Alex Marquez and Franco Morbidelli around the opening lap.
Third became second at the start of lap two when Marquez out-braked Morbidelli into Turn 1, the six-time MotoGP World Champion proceeding to set off in pursuit of his sibling up ahead.
While Alex kept Marc at arm's length initially at a distance of around six tenths, come lap six the elder of two was on the attack, Marquez overtaking into Turn 1 with a neat block pass.
From here Marquez would simply stretch his advantage back to Alex, crossing the line with a two second margin over the Gresini Racing rider.
With Alex Marquez in second, it means Marc only slightly increases his advantage at the top of the table, the pair now split by 27 points.
However, while the margins remain fairly tight between the Marquez brothers, pre-season title favourite Bagnaia is looking increasingly out of contention as he laboured to a lowly 12th place finish having started fourth.
The Italian struggled initially after a poor start dropped him to eighth, but a mistake on lap three at Turn 7 would demote himself well outside the points where he would remain. It means Bagnaia, who has failed to score in four of the last five races, is now 84 points shy of the top spot.
Back at the front, Fermin Aldeguer made the medium rear tyre work for him as he battled his way to a third top three finish of the season, the rookie joining Gresini Ducati team-mate Alex Marquez on the Sprint podium.
Though not quite able to build on his bright start, Morbidelli successfully held back an advancing wall of rivals in the final laps to secure fourth, the Italian resisting Acosta, who briefly ran third early on before a mistake at Turn 1 on lap four interrupted his rhythm.
Even so, it was arguably KTM's strongest race of the season as a whole with Maverick Vinales showing strong pace late on to claim seventh - despite a brush with Fabio Quartararo - while Brad Binder nabbed the final point despite ending lap one having dropped from sixth to 13th.
Elsewhere in the points, Fabio di Giannantonio ensured a strong return for VR46 Racing in sixth place, while Marco Bezzecchi put in a mighty comeback performance to go from 20th to eighth in just 12 laps.
Outside the points, Quartararo had to make do with 11th, the Frenchman running sixth initially before the skirmish with Vinales sent him wide at Turn 1 and dropped him out of the top ten.
Just two riders failed to finish with Joan Mir slipping off after being caught up in an incident with Jack Miller, a collision that earned the Australian a long lap penalty. His DNF compounded a dismal race for Honda after a poor opening lap for Johann Zarco kept him well out of contention down in 16th.
