David Munoz established himself as an early favourite for the Australian Moto3 as he dominated proceedings during Friday Practice at Phillip Island.

Fresh from scoring a second podium of the season in Indonesia less than a week ago, Munoz was the rider in charge during both P1 and P2 aboard the BOE Motorsports KTM.

Setting a benchmark of 1m 36.791secs, the Spaniard was chased by Stefano Nepa on his Angeluss MTA Team machine with Diogo Moreira - a first-time Moto3 race winner at Mandalika last weekend - rounded out the top three.

After wildly varying fortunes in Indonesia served to shake up the order in the overall standings coming to Australia, Jaume Masia - who holds a 16 point advantage up top - endured a frustrating day as technical issues pinned him back to sixth place, behind closest rival Ayumu Sasaki in fourth and Deniz Oncu in fifth.

Daniel Holgado, who was hampered by two penalties in Indonesia as he slipped to third in the standings, was tenth best as he chased Ivan Ortola, Joel Kelso and the impressive Josh Whatley, the British rider ending his day up in ninth.

However, there was less good news for team-mate Scott Ogden, who spent his day on the sidelines after encountering mechanical problems on his VisionTrack Honda.
