David Alonso carried his momentum through from his maiden victory last time out in the UK as he headed up the timesheets on the opening day of action for Roundf 10 of the 2023 Moto3 World championship in Austria.

The Colombian produced a mighty performance at Silverstone to claw his way back from the rear of the field to win his first Moto3 race, in so doing becoming the first rider from Colombia to triumph at grand prix level.

It was a high he continued to demonstrate in Spielberg as he shook out up top come the end of Friday's second Practice session by a sizeable +0.6s margin.

At the other side of that gap was fellow rookie Colin Veijer, the Dutchman another to be shpowing an impressive upturn in pace at this mid-way stage in the season.

After seeing his title aspirations take a major hit in the UK, Jaume Masia began on the comeback trail with the sixth best time at the end of Friday's action, ahead of Ivan Ivan Ortola, Ayumu Sasaki, Jose Antonio Rueda and Diogo Moreira.

Of the Brits, Scott Ogden finds himself just outside the provisional 14 positions for a direct Q2 entry, the VisionTrack Honda rider also suffering a high-side at the end of the Q1 session exiting the final corner. Team-mate Joshua Whatley, meanwhile, enjoyed one of his best starts to a race weekend with 16th in P1 and 20th come the end of P2.
