After five years with Yamaha, Franco Morbidelli decided to jump ship and made his way to Ducati. The VR46 Academy rider was signed by the Prima Pramac Racing Team for the 2024 MotoGP season. However, a preseason injury ruined his season before it got underway.

Morbidelli suffered a massive preseason training crash ahead of the 2024 season and missed all of testing as a result, and later revealed he suffered memory loss after the incident. The Italian participated in every Grand Prix but failed to score points until the Sprint Race at Jerez where he finished fourth.

With Morbidelli's injury in mind, we don't believe his 2024 season was as bad as lots of people made out. Yes, he underperformed compared to the other Ducati GP24 riders, but that was going to be the case after the difficulties he suffered. However, as the season went on Morbidelli did fight at the front once again.

Morbidelli had one podium finish in 2024 as he finished third in the San Marino Sprint Race. Other than the podium he had ten top ten finishes across the Grands Prix and Sprint Races. He also scored 173 points, the same as Alex Marquez.

After Prima Pramac Racing switched to Yamaha for 2025 Morbidelli jumped ship once again so he did not return to Yamaha. The VR46 Academy member will ride for the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team in the upcoming season.
