Double champion Jordi Torres has taken his first MotoE World Championship pole position of the Ducati era at a sodden Sachsenring, round three of the 2023 season.

Making a return to the circuit the MotoE World Cup made its race debut back in 2019, it was therefore fitting that Torres - who, with two titles, ranks as MotoE’s most successful competitor - would emerge top of a tricky wet Q2 session.

Riding the Aspar-prepared Ducati V21L, Torres was one of five riders ramping up the momentum in a Q2 session that was evolving and improving throughout, even if it remained wet throughout.

As expected, the fight for pole would come down to each rider’s final time attack, with Torres setting his personal best past the chequered flag to prevail with a 1m 34.601secs lap.

That gave him the nod over Hector Garzo, who led the IntactGP's challenge at its home race in second, while Eric Granado - a race winner in the wet at Mugello only five days ago - completes the front row.

Nicholas Spinelli and Hikari Okubo made the most of getting some valuable wet weather mileage in prior to Q2 by participating in and topping the timesheets in Q1, the former landing fourth on the grid and the latter securing fifth, with Mattia Casadei rounding out row two.

Ahead of Saturday's two races at the Saxony circuit, only four points separate a top three comprising pole man Torres, Matteo Ferrari - who starts ninth - and Garzo.
