'It's a matter of time' until Acosta wins his first MotoGP race according to Joan Mir

Gold & Goose

Joan Mir has praised Pedro Acosta after his rookie MotoGP season.

Pedro Acosta lived up to the expectations in 2024 as he made his MotoGP debut with the GasGas Tech3 squad. The Spaniard stood on the podium in only his second MotoGP race and looked set to win a race in his rookie season.

However, after early opportunities to fight for victories, mistakes began to slip in for the rookie. Acosta ended up crashing out of some of his best chances of winning MotoGP races, particularly at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Despite his lack of victories the 20-year-old impressed everyone in the world of MotoGP during his first season in the premier class. Acosta has been praised by many established MotoGP riders and Champions, only recently the 2020 MotoGP World Champion, Joan Mir, commented on Acosta's rookie year."

“Pedro is doing a great job,” Mir told our colleagues at Crash.net.

“It's very difficult to be competitive in all the tracks and Pedro showed very good speed in all the circuits, so that is fantastic. Probably the Ducatis are a lot more in front in terms of performance and that for sure did not help him get his first victory.

“But it will arrive... He's learning a lot and he's extremely fast. I'm not surprised that he didn't win, but if he did win, I would also not be surprised because he has the quality and the talent to do it.

“So it's a matter of time.”

For his second season in MotoGP Acosta has been promoted to the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team. He will partner long-time KTM lead rider, Brad Binder, after finishing two points behind the South African in 2024 the Spaniard will want to stamp his authority over Binder early on in the 2025 season.
