After the Misano Test Joan Mir was shocked with the lack of improvements Honda had made.
Honda has been down in the doldrums in recent years as they have not produced a competitive bike. However, after the first test of 2025 parts, it appears that the Japanese manufacturer has gone in the wrong direction again.
Joan Mir joined Honda in 2023 after Suzuki departed from MotoGP, but this move has not produced competitive results. The Spanish rider finished 22nd in the standings last season and is currently 21st in the 2024 standings.
After the San Marino Grand Prix, there was a one-day Misano Test for all the MotoGP riders. This test is usually a chance for the riders to test the early versions of the 2025 MotoGP machines. However, the machine that Honda produced did not fill Mir with confidence.
"We tried the aero, we tried some stuff that we tried in a previous test that was not working," Mir stated after the Misano Test.
"I was expecting more. I was expecting more from this test to try things properly that were working and to at least try more things. Today I think we did a great job in terms of aerodynamics but in the rest, we did not improve at all. I expect a lot more so let's see.
Mir continued by saying, "What worried me a bit is that the next test is in Valencia and that will decide next year. I think we are far from having a working line and an idea to make a competitive bike for next year. We are very far from that, so I think we need to work harder to make the process of evolution a bit shorter. Because if we continue like this it will be tough."
