Joan Mir Set to Remain at Honda for MotoGP 2025

Gold and Goose

Joan Mir is reportedly set to remain at the factory Honda team in the MotoGP 2025 season, despite strong rumours that he would leave.

Mir, according to Autosport, will re-sign with HRC for two more years, taking the 2020 World Champion until the end of 2026 with the Tokyo factory.

The move would put an end to rumours that Mir would retire at the end of the 2024 season, which Mir himself had refuted at the most recent round, the Italian Grand Prix. Additionally, it would keep open the Trackhouse Aprilia seat that Mir was anticipated to be moving to should he exit HRC at the end of his current deal.

The speculation around Mir had stemmed from both the continuing lack of competitiveness of the Honda RC213V and Mir's apparent lack of motivation. After the Catalan Grand Prix, Mir told the media that "I have no idea how long my body can take this," in reference to the number of crashes he was having on the Honda.

A lack of progress from HRC in developing the bike was seemingly pushing Mir towards exiting, but Autosport suggests that recent tests have been more positive, convincing Mir to stay.

The retirement rumours were nothing new for Mir, who was also linked with retirement or a sabbatical during 2022 after Suzuki announced it was leaving the championship, before eventually negotiating a move to Honda for 2023.
