Maverick Vinales is turning his attention to a bigger reward in Sunday’s full-length Grands Prix of The Americas race after collecting a second successive MotoGP Sprint Race victory at Circuit of The Americas.

The Aprilia Racing rider converted his lap record-breaking pole position into a similarly commanding victory around the Texan venue, Vinales leaving Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta - who had shadowed him for three laps - in his wake when he ramped up the pace from lap four.

It represents a second straight Sprint Race win for Vinales having collected his first win in Aprilia colours at Portimao.

It is form he is keen to replicate in Sunday’s more lucrative full-length grand prix, particularly after he was denied a podium finish in Portugal with a late technical-induced crash late on while running second.

“It’s amazing,” he said after the race. “We are dreaming but life is like that. You have to dream. It’s amazing how much we’ve improved in just one race because in Qatar I didn’t feel good with the bike and I wasn’t able to be competitive.

“But as soon as we changed a little bit on the bike, especially the weight balance, I just felt incredible every single lap. We need to keep pushing. The moment we are in is quite special, so we must enjoy it, but we can try to win [on Sunday].

“I feel super relaxed and a lot of relief from Portimao. It’s strange because you are on the grid but not nervous. I’m convinced, I’m focussed and that’s the feeling I need to be fast.”

“Obviously we have to improve because tomorrow is a long race but physically I feel so good. I want to go push and put every time the hammer down,"
