Round five of the 2024 Moto2 World Championship sees the French Grand Prix take place at Le Mans. Joe Roberts arrives in France with the points lead, and off the back of three consecutive second places.
Qualifying
Aron Canet was down in 16th after Saturday morning's P2 session, but the determined Spaniard came through Q1 to take pole position for the Moto2 French Grand Prix by over a tenth.
There was some late pressure from Fermin Aldeguer on Canet's time, but the #54 couldn't work out sector four. That meant the only problem for Canet was a crash in the final minute, which saw him leaving the scene on one leg, having broken his ankle during practice in Spain two weeks ago.
Aldeguer's fourth sector struggles meant the best he could do was 12th, and the rider closest to Canet was Joe Roberts, while Sergio Garcia completed the front row.
Albert Arenas was fourth, ahead of Alonso Lopez and Manuel Gonzalez, who was in the 1:34s to break the lap record in P2 but could only manage a 1:35.453 in Q2.
Izan Guevara took the same route as Canet to Q2, and took seventh place once he got there ahead of Senna Agiu and Filip Salac who crashed at the end of the session.
Tony Arbolino rounded out the qualifying top 10, and he will be joined by Jake Dixon and the aforementioned Aldeguer on row four.

P2
Manuel Gonzalez topped Moto2 P2 with a time set more than five minutes from the end of the session. The Spaniard was the first rider to lap in under 1:35 on a Moto2 bike at Le Mans, and was the only rider to do so by the end of the session.
Gonzalez' 1:34.868 put him over 0.2 seconds clear of second-placed Sergio Garcia, who set a new lap record in P1 on Friday afternoon. Garcia was 0.015 seconds ahead of Jeremy Alcoba, third on the Yamaha VR46 MasterCamp bike.
Joe Roberts was fourth, ahead of stop-start enthusiast Somkiat Chantra and Alonso Lopez, who kicked off this weekend of lap record breaking pace in FP on Friday morning but was only sixth by the end of P2.
Filip Salac was seventh, ahead of Marcos Ramirez, Fermin Aldeguer, and Tony Arbolino who completed the top 10. Ai Ogura, Jake Dixon, Albert Arenas, and Barry Baltus took the final four Q2 spots.

P1
Sergio Garcia replaced Alonso Lopez as the Moto2 lap record holder at Le Mans in P1 at the French Grand Prix.
Garcia's 1:35.473 undercut Lopez' 1:35.556 set in FP1 in the morning. Lopez was unable to respond due to a late crash, but finished second anyway.
Fermin Aldeguer was third, ahead of Manuel Gonzalez, Joe Roberts, Ai Ogura, Barry Baltus, Somkiat Chantra, Aron Canet, and Tony Arbolino who complete the top 10. Jeremy Alcoba, Senna Agius, Marcos Ramirez, and Filip Salac took the final four provisional Q2 positions.
After his crash in FP1, Alex Escrig was declared unfit for the weekend. He joins Bo Bendsneyder and Celestino Vietti on the sidelines. Vietti is not replaced at Red Bull KTM Ajo, while Daniel Munoz has replaced Bendsneyder at the Gas Up team.
