Round 10 of the 2024 Moto3 World Championship takes the lightweight class to Silverstone. Moto3 Great Britain P2 was topped by Dani Holgado, after Ivan Ortola had his best lap cancelled. Ortola, though, got his lap in in qualifying and took pole position with a new lap record, a pole which he converted to victory in the Grand Prix.

Grand Prix

Ivan Ortola won the Moto3 British Grand Prix, coming out on top in a multi-rider battle on the final lap.

It was Ortola who made the holeshot from the pole position he won on Saturday, but it was a more or less meaningless position to hold, as the usual Moto3 pack battle ensued.

11 riders broke away from the rest in the first four laps, with Dani Holgado leading the way early on.

Ortola made his way to the front on lap 11, and duly began to break away. He was soon caught, though, after Collin Veijer and then David Alonso made their respective ways past Holgado, and the #48 was then shuffled backwards as the pack caught him.

Seemingly ominously, Alonso took the lead on lap 13 at turn 15, but he was unable to break away. Veijer then took the lead at the same corner a lap later, and seemed to have a commanding gap going onto the final lap after David Alonso made a mistake in the chicane, which held the rest of the pack up.

But Veijer, like Ortola earlier, was overhauled, this time by Ortola himself, who passed at Becketts, which forced Veijer wide, opening the door for Alonso to move into second.

Alonso had the slipstream of Ortola towards turn 15, but the pair's out-braking match opened the door for Veijer again. Ortola managed to maintain momentum around the outside, while Veijer and Alonso were more compromised exiting turn 15, leaving them to battle with each other. Their deficit to Ortola meant that even a mistake from the Spaniard in braking for the final chicane was not enough to open the door to either of them, as Alonso secured second ahead of Veijer.

Ortola's victory was his second in three races, after his Assen triumph over Veijer, and saw him cut his championship deficit to Alonso to 53 points.

Alonso and Veijer completed the podium behind Ortola, while Holgado finished just off it in fourth [place, and Stefano Nepa completed the top five.

Ryusei Yamanaka was sixth, ahead of Joel Kelso, Adrian Fernandez, Jose Antonio Rueda, and Tatsuki Suzuki who rounded out the top 10.

Qualifying

Ivan Ortola set Moto3 pole for the British Grand Prix in qualifying at Silverstone, narrowly beating Collin Veijer.

Ortola and Veijer have both been consistently fast this weekend, with Veijer topping combined practice and Ortola setting a lap time good enough to top P2 on Saturday morning, before it was cancelled. The two had almost half-a-second on the rest of the field in qualifying, with Veijer - only 0.041 seconds behind Ortola - 0.442 seconds clear of Joel Kelso in third place.

From Kelso on back it was much tighter, with Alonso just over 0.1 seconds behind the Australian in fourth, and Ryusei Yamanaka and Jacob Roulstone - fifth and sixth, respectively - within 0.2 of Alonso.

Stefano Nepa heads up the third row of the grid in seventh, just ahead of Dani Holgado and Tatsuki Suzuki who complete it. Jose Antonio Rueda rounded out the qualifying top 10, ahea dof Angel Piqueras and Adrian Fernandez who complete row four.

P2

Dani Holgado topped Moto3 P2 at the British Grand Prix as the only rider to lap in the 2:09s on Saturday morning.

Only three riders who made Q2 set their best time of the combined practice sessions in P2: Holgado, who was 0.021 seconds slower than Collin Veijer's best from P1, Angel Piqueras, and Joel Kelso.

The slower pace in P2 means that riders like David Alonso, who was 15th in P2, still makes Q2 automatically in ninth place on the combined times.

Below are results from Moto3 P2, and above that Moto3 Combined Practice with the top 14 in combined times automatically qualified from Q2.

P1

Collin Veijer topped Moto3 P1 in Silverstone despite a late crash in the afternoon session, ahead of Ivan Ortola.

Only three riders made it into the 2:09s: Veijer, Ivan Ortola, and David Munoz. Veijer was fastest of all, and Munoz' came in Free Practice, while Ortola narrowly beat his FP time in P1.

Jacob Roulstone rounded out the top three, ahead of Scott Ogden and Stefano Nepa who completed the top five. David Alonso was sixth after he crashed, while Tatsuki Suzuki, Ryusei Yamanaka, Jose Antonio Rueda, and Riccardo Rossi rounded out the top 10.

The final four provisional Q2 positions were taken by Nicola Carraro, Matteo Bertelle, Joel Kelso, and Dani Holgado.
