MotoGP Austria, Race: Brilliance from Bagnaia in Austria, Ducati finish 1-2-3-4 in KTM's backyard

Gold and Goose

Francesco Bagnaia extends his Championship lead over Jorge Martin after winning at the Red Bull Ring.

On Saturday it was Jorge Martin who set a new lap record to claim pole position. However, it was Francesco Bagnaia who went on to win the Sprint Race. But a 28-lap race would give all the riders a new challenge at the Red Bull Ring.

Just like in the Sprint Race, it was brilliance from Bagnaia. The Italian rider led from the word go and was I a race of his own. The two wins this weekend could be crucial for Bagnaia's Championship defence.

Three seconds behind Bagnaia was Jorge Martin. The Spaniard may hold the lap record from Qualifying but in the race, he could not match the factory Ducati.

After doing the double at Silverstone Enea Bastianini is back on the podium again. 'The Beast' got off to an amazing start but could not match Bagnaia and Martin.

Marc Marquez had a terrible start after his ride height device did not engage. Exiting the first turn Marquez was down in 14th. However, he made his way through the pack and picked up a fourth-place finish.

The top KTM at their home Grand Prix was Brad Binder. The South African rider had nothing to challenge the four Ducati's ahead of him so a fifth-place was the best he could do in Austria.

After a difficult 2024 season, Marco Bezzecchi had a decent weekend in Austria. The Italian managed to finish in sixth place.

The top Aprilia rider was Maverick Vinales. It had been a tough time at the Red Bull Ring as the Noale manufacturer did not like the tyres that were available at the Austrian Grand Prix.

After getting involved in an incident with Marquez at Turn One Franco Morbidelli also put in a valiant effort. The Italian was outside the points on Lap One but crossed the line in eighth.

A double podium was not on the cards for Aleix Espargaro this weekend. The Spaniard claimed an incredible third place in the Sprint but could only manage a ninth place in the main Grand Prix.

Rounding out the top ten was Alex Marquez in tenth place on the Gresini Ducati.
