Alex Marquez carried his form from the Malaysian Grand Prix back to Europe as he topped Free Practice One in Portugal.
In the opening Practice session of the weekend, Alex Marquez controlled the session for the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP squad as he had an advantage of 0.196 seconds over the field.
Marco Bezzecchi and Aprilia struggled in Malaysia two weeks ago, but the Italian was back in the top three on Friday at Portimao as he ended the session in second place.
Jack Miller was the top Yamaha rider in the opening MotoGP Free Practice session as he was in third place for the Prima Pramac Racing squad.
The second rider from a Japanese manufacturer in the top five was the LCR Honda Castrol rider, Johann Zarco, who was in fourth place.
After an early crash in Free Practice One, Pol Espargaro had a positive morning at Portimao as he put the Red Bull KTM Tech3 squad into fifth place.
Franco Morbidelli was the second Ducati rider to feature inside the top ten on Friday morning as he was in sixth place on the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team.
The Honda HRC Castrol squad had both riders in the top ten in Free Practice One, as Luca Marini was in seventh place and Joan Mir was in eighth place.
Pedro Acosta was the second KTM rider to feature inside the top ten on Friday morning as he ended up in ninth place on the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing RC16.
Completing the top ten was the second BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP rider, Fermin Aldeguer.
Nicolo Bulega made his debut as a MotoGP rider in Free Practice One. The Italian rider was in 14th place at the end of the session, and was three places ahead of Francesco Bagnaia, who was in 17th.
