MotoGP Spain, Practice Results | Alex Marquez set a new all-time lap record on Friday afternoon

Gold & Goose

Alex Marquez went from the gravel trap to the top of the timesheets in Friday's MotoGP Practice session at Jerez.

After a massive crash in the early stages of the session that brought out a red flag, Alex Marquez was back on the pace towards the latter end. The BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP rider smashed the lap record and ended the day on top of the timesheets.

Francesco Bagnaia thought he had done enough to take top spot, but he ended up slipping back to second place in the final moments of the session.

In third place was the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider, Franco Morbidelli. The Italian was able to put in a fast last lap to move himself slightly up the order and guarantee himself a spot in Q2.

Marc Marquez missed out on the top three spots as he was not able to get one last flying lap together. The Spaniard kept hitting yellow flags and ended up finishing the day in fourth place.

The top non-Ducati rider was Fabio Quartararo in fifth place on the Monster Energy Yamaha. The French rider crashed with 17 minutes to go but was able to get back on track and secure a Q2 position.

MotoGP rookie, Fermin Aldeguer, is quickly cementing himself as a threat at the front. The Spaniard ended the day in sixth place at his home Grand Prix.

Johann Zarco was once again able to make his way into Q2 on the LCR Honda Castrol machine. The French rider ended the day in seventh place and was 0.544 seconds off of Alex Marquez's best lap.

The only KTM rider who was able to secure a Q2 spot on Friday afternoon was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider, Pedro Acosta. The Spaniard ended the day in eighth place on the RC16 despite his fellow KTM riders struggling to finish in the top ten.

Fabio di Giannantonio made sure that all Ducati riders ended up in a Q2 spot as he ended the day in ninth place on the Ducati GP25.

Completing the top ten was the Honda HRC Castrol rider of Joan Mir, on the RC213V. The Spaniard was 0.695 seconds slower than Alex Marquez at the end of the hour-long session.
