The race began under cloudy skies, and Brad Binder made the holeshot. Binder would play a large role in the Sprint, but largely for negative reasons.
He was passed by Jorge Martin for he lead at turn nine on the first lap, and then by Marc Marquez for second at the same corner a lap later. Binder lunged back at Marquez in braking for turn 13, and they both ran wide. Francesco Bagnaia cut underneath to take advantage of Binder’s loss of momentum, but Marco Bezzecchi behind him got an even better drive, and the inside line for turn one. Bagnaia out-braked Binder around the outside, Bezzecchi out-braked himself on the inside of both of the other two, and ran wide himself. Bagnaia cut underneath Bezzecchi, only for Binder to cut to his inside. The contact was inevitable, and Bagnaia paid the biggest price: another DNF, a sixth race from seven without a podium, and losing 12 points more to Jorge Martin.

Martin was perfect. He might not have been as perfect as Marc Marquez in the middle of the race, when the #93 cruised up to his rear tyre and passed him at turn nine, but unlike the Gresini rider, Pramac’s #89 didn’t crash. Marquez folded the front at turn nine on lap eight, and the race, from there, was run.
Then, three more riders crashed simultaneously, as Binder, Enea Bastianini, and Alex Marquez all folded the front on the same damp patch at turn five. A lap later, Maverick Vinales made the same mistake.
That put Pedro Acosta into second place, a position he didn’t relinquish as he navigated his way around the patchy Jerez circuit. Behind, Fabio Quartararo held on from an understandably hesitant Dani Pedrosa for third place.
Pedrosa took fourth, his third in three starts, ahead of Franco Morbidelli in fifth, Raul Fernandez in sixth, and Marc Marquez who somewhat bulldozed his way back to seventh.
Augusto Fernandez was eighth, Miguel Oliveria ninth after being pushed wide by Marquez on the final lap, and Joan Mir completed the top 10 after gaining a bit of Gresini paint himself at the final corner.
After the race, Fabio Quartararo was awarded an eight-second time penalty for an illegal tyre pressure, and fell to fifth as a result. Dani Pedrosa was promoted to third, and Franco Morbidelli to fourth. There were also penalties for Jack Miller, Alex Rins, and Fabio Di Giannantonio, who all crashed and remounted, as well as for Raul Fernandez.
