Brad Binder became the fastest MotoGP rider in history - quite literally - during the Italian MotoGP Sprint Race at Mugello after data shows he peaked at an eye-watering, skin peeling 227.4mph (366.1km/h).

The South African endured an eventful race in Italy as he fought back from a tenth place starting position, Binder missing out on points in the end when he was punished with a long lap penalty as a consequence of contact that led to Alex Marquez's retirement.

Though it was a frustrating outcome for the KTM rider's title aspirations, Binder at least came away from the 11-lap encounter with something to show for after clocking the fastest speed ever officially record by a MotoGP bike.

His record was no unexpected having set the third fastest speed of all-time in Q2 alone, while the Sprint Race format - which sees bikes start with lighter fuel loads in a pack where they can benefit from stronger slipstreams - ensured several riders now feature on the all-time ranking as a result of Saturday's encounter.
