Fabio Quartararo equalled his best result of the 2024 season in the Malaysian Sprint Race as he finished in fifth.
In the second half of the 2024 MotoGP Championship Yamaha has been slowly improving from where they started. The two Yamaha riders have improved their results throughout the season and reached a high in Malaysia.
The 2021 MotoGP World Champion, Fabio Quartararo, equalled his best result of the 2024 season. The French rider has not finished inside the top five since the Sprint Race in Jerez. However, Quartararo finished fifth again in Malaysia.
On Friday Yamaha tested a new engine, which many believed Quartararo used to end the day in sixth. However, it was revealed his new engine had broken after a lap and a half, meaning he used the old M1 engine.
The 25-year-old may have been without a new engine, but he did have new electronic upgrades for the Malaysian Grand Prix. Which Quartararo believes really 'paid off' in the Malaysian Sprint Race.
"It was nice, I think this weekend we have made a step with the electronics," Quartararo told MotoGP.com. "It has paid off, especially on the race pace. Hopefully, it will also work tomorrow."
Quartararo has not stood on a MotoGP podium in 2024, but he could have the chance on Sunday. However, the French rider does not believe he will be able to fight with the Ducati riders in the Grand Prix.
"We had some issues with the front it was not so comfortable, especially at the end," Quartararo said. "But let's see what we can achieve tomorrow. I think it will be really difficult to touch the guys with the Ducati's, but let's see what we can achieve."
