Cal Crutchlow is set for his first British MotoGP appearance since 2019 after Yamaha confirmed three wildcard appearances for the #35 in 2024.
Crutchlow's other appearances in 2024 are set to include the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello and the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano. Both the San Marino and British races are currently still subject to confirmation from IRTA.
Crutchlow's Silverstone history is mixed in MotoGP, having suffered a bruising three-crash weekend in 2013, but also picking up a podium in 2016 after a late race duel with Marc Marquez. The 2019 edition was his final British GP appearance before Covid cancelled the event in 2020, which was his final full-time season of racing.
Crutchlow's only MotoGP top five at Mugello came in 2013 when he finished third after a crash for the aforementioned Marquez, and a 2018 podium at Misano was one of only two top sixes for Crutchlow in San Marino.
In Mugello, Crutchlow will be joined in wildcarding by KTM test rider Pol Espargaro, who will be making his first race appearance since being dropped from the Tech3 GasGas team at the end of 2023. The reason for both KTM and Yamaha choosing Mugello for wildcard entries is the one-day post-race test at the Italian Grand Prix. For the same reason, Aprilia, KTM, and Honda all have wildcard entries at this weekend's MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix, and the same is true of the San Marino race Crutchlow is penciled in for in September.
