Andrea Iannone wins his first World Superbike (WorldSBK) race at MotorLand Aragon.
Andrea Iannone has become the 19th rider to win a MotoGP and World Superbike race. 14 years after winning the inaugural Moto2 Aragon Grand Prix Iannone is a winner at Aragon once again in WorldSBK. The Italian dominated the race from the moment the lights went out and put together the best race of his Superbike career.
BMW completed the podium at MotorLand Aragon with a ROKiT and Bonovo BMW on the podium. It was the returning Toprak Razgatlioglu who finished second after missing the last six WorldSBK races. In third place was the Texan, Garrett Gerloff.
In fourth place, was the reigning World Champion, Alvaro Bautista. The Spaniard needed to win this opening race, or at least beat Razgatlioglu, to close in on the Championship leaders.
After winning three races last time out at Cremona Danilo Petrucci finished fifth at MotorLand Aragon. The Italian rider was in podium contention but got beat up midrace and salvaged a fifth-place finish.
The top Honda rider was Iker Lecuona in sixth place in what was an amazing race for Honda. The Spaniard has been back at the sharp end in recent races with Team HRC after the team made a recent step.
Kawasaki could only manage a seventh-place finish at MotorLand Aragon in the hands of Alex Lowes. The British rider started in podium contention but dropped down the order as the race went on.
The second Team HRC rider Xavi Vierge was also inside the top ten with his teammate. Vierge took his Honda to an eighth-place finish to secure a double top-ten finish for the Japanese manufacturer.
The third BMW rider in the top ten was Michael van der Mark as he took his BMW to ninth-place. Completing the top ten was the only Yamaha in the top ten of Andrea Locatelli.
The remaining British riders were outside of the top ten with Scott Redding in 11th, Jonathan Rea in 14th, Bradley Ray claimed a point in 15th, Tarran Mackenzie in 18th and Sam Lowes failed to finish after his engine blew up on the opening lap.
