'I'm free for 2026' - Razgatlioglu continues to dream of a MotoGP move

Gold and Goose

Toprak Razgatlioglu has put himself on the MotoGP market for the 2026 season after his BMW contract expires.

Across the last seven years, Toprak Razgatlioglu has become one of the top names in World Superbike history. However, the Turkish rider is ready to move away from Superbike racing to chase his dream of becoming a MotoGP rider.

In his seven seasons of World Superbike racing Razgatlioglu has won 57 races, stood on the podium a further 85 times and won two World Championships, one for Yamaha and one for BMW.

Now Razgtaliolgu is 28 years old and will be 29 when his BMW contract runs out. Recently the two-time Champion made it clear that he wants to move to MotoGP before he gets overlooked by teams for being too old.

"I'm free for 2026," Razgatlioglu told Sky Italia. "I don't know if we'll talk to some teams to see if there's a chance of a contract so I can move to the paddock.

"I still have that dream, but if it doesn't work out for 2026, I won't think about it anymore. After all, I'm getting older and for me this is the last chance."

What are the issues surrounding Razgatlioglu's move to MotoGP?

Razgatlioglu has MotoGP experience as he took part in two tests with Monster Energy Yamaha in 2023. However, after the Japanese manufacturer limited what Razgatlioglu could change on the M1 the Turkish rider and Yamaha were underwhelmed by the test.

The major issue that Razgatlioglu faces if he wishes to move to MotoGP in 2026 is the lack of seats available. In the past Razgatlioglu's mentor, Kenan Sofuoglu, has made it clear that the Turkish rider would only ride for a factory MotoGP team.

As it stands the only factory seat available in 2026 is with Honda. Unless Honda develops dramatically in 2025 it seems unlikely that they would be able to attract Razgatlioglu.

The other teams that will have availability are the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team, LCR Honda and Prima Pramac Yamaha.
