Danilo Petrucci ends Day One on top of the World Superbike time sheets ahead of Alvaro Bautista and Toprak Razgatlioglu.
After Toprak Razgatliotlu topped the opening session of the weekend earlier on today Ducati bounced back this evening.
Ducati ended Free Practice Two in first and second place. However, the rider in first was Danilo Petrucci rather than either of the Aruba.it Racing Ducati riders. It was Alvaro Bautista who finished the session in second place but crashed in the closing minutes.
Toprak Razgatlioglu still put his BMW in third place in the second Practice session of the day. However, the Turkish rider did suffer session-ending mechanical issues in FP1 and FP2.
Even though he missed all of FP1 Nicolo Bulega still finished in fourth place this evening. The WorldSBK rookie put in a late time attack to jump up the order.
Dominique Aegerter has struggled for the majority of the 2024 season, but the Swiss rider showed promise this evening. As the top Yamaha Aegerter will be expecting good things tomorrow as he ended Day One in fifth place.
In FP1 Jonathan Rea finished in sixth place, which is the same position he finished this evening. The six-time World Champion has had a good Friday by his standards at Yamaha and will be in the mix tomorrow.
BMW had two riders in seventh and eighth place with Michael van der Mark in seventh and Garret Gerloff in eighth.
Alex Lowes has been the top Kawasaki rider all day, he finished FP2 in ninth place. The Kawasaki has not been as strong at Portimao as it has at previous circuits this season.
Despite a late crash Michael Ruben Rinaldi still rounds out the top ten. The Italians WorldSBK future is unknown but a good weekend at Portimao would help him secure a ride for 2025.
The remaining British riders of Scott Redding and Bradley Ray finished outside of the top ten in 13th and 19th places.
