Toprak Razgatlioglu has claimed his 11th consecutive World Superbike race win in the opening race at Portimao.
BMW and Toprak Razgatliolgu took pole position in the Superpole session in their search for a record equalising 11 race wins in a row. Alex Lowes and Danilo Petrucci joined Razgatliolgu on the front row of the grid.
After the opening 20-lap race of the weekend, Razgatliolgu and BMW have equalled the record of 11 race wins in a row. The Turkish rider said yesterday that he was not bothered by 11 as he was chasing a record-breaking 12 wins in a row.
In second place was Alvaro Bautista who started sixth, fell to 13th and then charged up to second place. This was the Spaniard's 100th World Superbike podium, becoming only the seventh rider to reach the 100 club.
After suffering major injuries earlier in the year Danilo Petrucci is back on a WorldSBK podium. The Italian rider battled for the win, but once again fell short.
Garrett Gerloff looks much more settled now that his future is sorted. The American has had his best start to a weekend all season as he ended Race One in fourth place.
After leading the race early on Alex Lowes had to settle for fifth place. The British rider got an amazing start and was holding off Razgatlioglu but slowly fell back through the field.
BMW had three riders in the top seven with Michael van der Mark claiming sixth place. The Dutch rider had challenged for a podium but like Lowes fell back down the order.
Nicolo Bulega missed all of Free Practice One and has been suffering from an illness all weekend. However, the Italian claimed seventh place in the first race of the weekend.
Axel Bassani claimed a strong finish as he put his Kawasaki into the top ten as he finished in eighth place.
Rounding out the top ten was both the GYTR GRT Yamaha riders. Dominique Aegerter finished in ninth place and Remy Gardner claimed tenth.
There were three British riders outside of the top ten with Jonathan Rea claiming one point in 15th, Bradley Ray finished in 17th and Scott Redding crashed out of the race.
