Joan Mir will miss the next two MotoGP races in Japan and Indonesia, Honda has confirmed.

Mir has been openly dealing with an illness since the Misano race just over a week ago.

After retiring in the San Marino race, he then pulled out of the Austrian MotoGP where he was replaced by Takaaki Nakagami.

Just two days after the Austria race, Honda has confirmed that Mir will not race in Motegi or Mandalika, either, as his health problems are persisting.

“Joan Mir has been experiencing a variety of symptoms impacting his energy and performance for several months with a recent increase in severity, the cause is still unconfirmed at this time,” said MotoGP chief medical officer Angel Charte.

“Due to their persistence and severity, Mir has been undergoing a series of tests at the Dexeus University Hospital with the aim of reaching a definitive diagnosis. 

“Due to the symptoms, the medical advice is to observe strict rest and undergo various treatments for the next 15 days. 

“Consequently, I have advised him against participating in the Japanese and Indonesian Grands Prix. 

“His condition will continue to be closely monitored by my team.”

Honda’s statement confirming Mir’s absence in the next two races does not name his replacement, the identity of which is to be confirmed. Nakagami, who rode at the Red Bull Ring and finished 13th, is due to wildcard at Motegi; Aleix Espargaro has recently returned to testing duties after an injury earlier in the year; and Cal Crutchlow is a theoretical possibility after his fill-in role at LCR Honda earlier in the year, although Crutchlow was always clear that the LCR team itself was an influencing factor in his decision to replace Johann Zarco.
