Danny Buchan says he is very much ready for 2024 to begin following a tumultuous 12 months, though he insists he is ‘thankful’ for it to have happened all the same.
The experienced British Superbike Championship rider endured a torrid season competitively with three huge accidents - at Silverstone, Snetterton and Cadwell Park - forcing him to skip the majority of the year and curtail his season with three rounds to spare through injury.
His hindered campaign would also be his last with the SYNETIQ BMW team, Buchan announcing a split with the TAS Racing crew prior to the conclusion of the season.
Despite the various set-backs, including those he alludes to in an Instagram post, the Englishman remains in good spirits ahead of 2024 and his switch back to Kawasaki machinery with DAO Racing [click here or on image below to view full post on Instagram].
“Well 2023, I am thankful you happened. I learnt so much about my character this year, I learned so much about resilience. I believe my kids will have learnt a lot being involved and living/seeing what we as a family overcome. I learnt so much about the people closest to me and how the true souls dragged me out of some shit times. I am grateful for my family and friends.
“One day I will tell the story of 2023 and how dark it was for me and I overcome such a horrid period of my life, and I don’t just mean my racing life. I mean in life LIFE. But that time isn’t now. Right now I’m grateful and enjoying it.
“All I would say is please, if you are struggling, just keep fucking going, there is a light at the end of the tunnel you just have to keep going until you see it, however long that takes don’t give up. Promise yourself that and promise your loved ones that.
“I’m not posting for sympathy, I’m posting because I’m real, I’m posting because not everything on here is all it’s made out to be, if one person reads this and is in a dark dark place and understands so many people are struggling and smiling through it and can manage to overcome their own demons, I’ll be so happy.
“I am so excited for 2024 in many ways. Thank you everyone for your support.”
