German Moto2 Friday Practice | Acosta carries momentum, Dixon top five

Gold and Goose

Pedro Acosta continued the momentum from his victory at Mugello by topping Friday Practice timesheets for the German Moto2 at the Sachsenring just a few days on.

In a week that has seen Acosta dominate the headlines amid heated speculation over his future within the KTM fold, the Spaniard put the furore to the back of his mind by leading the way in P1 with a 1m 23.979s.

It’s a benchmark that would stay firm up top come the end of the day after rain during the lunch break made conditions too sketchy for rivals to attempt a faster effort in P2.

Indeed, though slick tyres would make an appearance in the closing stages, no-one improved on their morning efforts, leaving P1 to set the order heading into Saturday.

Behind Acosta, Alonso Lopez ran the KTM Ajo rider closest with a 1m 24.216secs effort, with Manuel Gonzalez enjoying a strong start to the weekend with a run to third on the Yamaha VR46 MasterCamp Kalex.

Filip Salac was quick again over a single lap to hold down fourth, ahead of Mugello podium winner Jake Dixon on the Aspar-run GasGas bike, Fermin Aldeguer and Joe Roberts.

Championship leader Tony Arbolino settled for eighth, though the Marc VDS rider had the distinction of leading the way in the weather affected P2 session, ahead of Aldeguer and Somkiat Chantra.

Sam Lowes followed his team-mate on the final timesheets in ninth, with Bo Bendsneyder completing the top ten.
