Hector Garzo scored his long-awaited maiden MotoE World Championship win in a shortened second race of the German MotoE weekend at the Sachsenring.

The Spaniard found himself in the right place at the right time when red flags were deployed with four laps remaining, Garzo having drafted from third to first just a lap earlier.

Another closely-matched race among the leading contenders, a pack of seven broke away in the early stages as light rain began to fall, throwing a curve ball further into the mix.

Despite this, the riders maintained a swift tempo from the start, with Garzo leading initially after getting the jump on race one winner Jordi Torres into Turn 1, before the Aspar rider scythed through on lap three.

He wouldn't hold it for long though with Torres, preoccupied with defending from Garzo behind him, left the door open for Pons' Mattia Casadei to find a gap into Turn 1 at the start of lap four, the Italian successfully block passing both for the lead.

With rain falling more heavily, Torres shadowed Casadei into lap five before taking over the lead with a two-stage pass at Turns 12 and 13, but the loss of momentum would allow Garzo to make up ground on both over the line, the Dynavolt IntactGP rider drafting past both into Turn 1.

It would prove the decisive move of the race as intensifying rain forced officials to throw the red flag - and therefore the chequered flag - on lap seven, with Garzo declared the winner, followed by Casadei and Torres.

A maiden win for Garzo in the MotoE class, it also secured a treasured victory on home soil for reigning champions IntactGP.

Unable to get in among the top three, Eric Granado maintained a watching brief en route to fourth, while Nicholas Spinelli pulled off an impressive double pass into Turn 1 too on his way to fifth ahead of Randy Krummenacher and Matteo Ferrari.

Hikari Okubo, Alessandro Zaccone and Andrea Montavani completed the top ten.
