The 2024 season has been terrible for Honda, but their riders had one more test at Jerez with their 2025 machine.
Honda is the last MotoGP manufacturer to end the 2024 season as they took part in one last test. The Japanese manufacturer was out on track at Jerez at a World Superbike preseason test with Yamaha, Kawasaki and Bimota.
The factory Honda MotoGP riders of Luca Marini, Joan Mir and Johann Zarco were at the test, as well as the new Honda MotoGP Test Rider, Aleix Espargaro.
Across the two-day test, the riders split the workload with Marini and Espargaro testing on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday Mir and Zarco took over testing duties.
The Jerez test comes only a week after the Barcelona test where all 2025 MotoGP riders were on track. However, the latest 2025 Honda RC213V was primarily used at the Jerez test this week.
At the Barcelona test, the factory Honda rider's opinions were very mixed. Mir complained that Honda had not improved or provided him with any new parts at the first 2025 preseason test. However, his factory Honda teammate, Marini, provided different opinions about the positive new parts provided by HRC.
Honda's 2024 woes:
The 2024 MotoGP World Championship was a terrible year for the Japanese manufacturer. None of Honda's four riders featured inside the top fifteen of the Riders Championship at the end of the year.
The LCR Honda duo of Johann Zarco and Takaaki Nakagami were the top Honda riders in 17th and 19th places. However, the factory Honda riders of Joan Mir and Luca Marini ended the year in 21st and 22nd places.
Honda also ended the season last in the Constructors Championship as they finished in fifth place. They were 49 points behind fellow Japanese manufacturer, Yamaha, who ended the year in fourth. Honda was also 647 points behind Ducati who dominated the 2024 MotoGP season.
Honda's 2024 season is now over with no more tests scheduled until the new year.
