Miguel Oliveira out of French MotoGP, RNF confirms replacement

Miguel Oliveira will miss the upcoming French MotoGP due to injuries sustained in an accident on the opening lap of the Spanish MotoGP in Jerez.

The Portuguese rider was caught up in a tangle with factory Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo on the run to Turn 2 of the main full length feature.

Caught on the outside after making contact with Quartararo’s M1, the RNF Racing Aprilia rider was flicked into a high-side that led to a heavy landing on his shoulder.

Initially diagnosed as a dislocation, further examination revealed a fracture in the humerus and an anterior ligamentous labrum injury.

Though Oliveira will avoid surgery, he will be forced to sit out Round 5 of the season at Le Mans in order to recover. It is the second time this season that Oliveira has been sidelined by injury after missing Round 2 in Argentina after hurting his hip in a collision with Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez.

While Raul Fernandez flew solo for the team on that occasion, this time RNF Racing will substitute Oliveira, with Aprilia test and development rider Lorenzo Savadori returning to the MotoGP grid in his place.
