Ivan Ortola sets a new Moto3 lap record to claim pole position at the Japanese Grand Prix.
With the Moto3 Championship on the line this weekend Ivan Ortola is pulling out all the stops to take the title challenge to Australia. The Spaniard set a new lap record at Motegi to claim pole position for MT Helmets - MSi.
Starting from second place is Collin Veijer on the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP machine. The Dutch rider is still in the title fight so his objective will be the same as Ortola's.
The Championship leader, David Alonso, will start from third place on the inside of the front row. The Colombian rider has a healthy lead in the title fight but knows he doesn't have to win it on Sunday.
The top Honda rider on the Moto3 grid is Angel Piqueras in fourth place at the head of the second row.
The top Japanese rider on the Moto3 grid is Ryusei Yamanaka on the second row of the grid in fifth place.
The BOE Motorsport riders Joel Kelso and David Munoz will start from sixth and eighth places on the grid.
Adrian Fernandez will start in seventh place at the head of the third row of the grid.
Completing the top ten on the grid are two Spaniards, Dani Holgado and David Almansa. Holgado will start from ninth place with Almansa in tenth.
British rider, Scott Ogden, did not make his way into Q2 on Saturday as he will start from 20th place.
