Thruxton BSB Saturday FP3 | Leon Haslam back on top in mixed conditions

Leon Haslam topped the time sheets in the final British Superbike Championship practice session at Thruxton on Saturday morning, the ROKiT BMW Motorrad rider finishing 0.219s ahead of Lee Jackson (Cheshire Mouldings Kawasaki) and Kyle Ryde (LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha).

A short period of drizzle earlier had left the 2.35-mile circuit damp, but the warm air temperatures meant it rapidly dried, and Haslam was quickly on the pace, a lap of 1’15.603s some half a second quicker than what he’d managed the day before.

That put him initially a quarter of a second clear of Ryde before Jackson moved into second, the third rider to lap in the 1’15’s and 0.219s adrift of Haslam. Jackson’s team-mate Max Cook, Luke Mossey (Tactix by Lloyd & Jones BMW) and Ryan Vickers on the second OMG machine were the early top six.

However, most of the riders were soon back in pit lane as the drizzle re-appeared after just eight minutes of the 20-minute session, Glenn Irwin (BeerMonster Ducati) and Tito Rabat (McAMS Yamaha) just two riders remaining out on track.

They were soon back in the garages too though as the drizzle turned into a heavy shower and only a handful of riders ventured back out on track.

That meant the top six remained the same with Danny Buchan (Synetiq BMW) placing seventh ahead of Bradley Perie (Lee Hardy Racing Kawasaki), another rider to lap half a second quicker, with Irwin and Friday’s pace setter Jason O’Halloran (McAMS Yamaha) completing the top ten.
