Deniz Öncü made himself the rider to beat coming into qualifying for the Aragon Moto2 as he smashed his own lap record to top Free Practice 2 at Motorland Aragon.
Scene of his maiden Moto2 podium last season, Oncu - who was also quickest in FP1 - twice improved the erstwhile best lap around the Alcaniz circuit to take a 0.3s advantage in Q2 later this afternoon.
While Oncu was the owner of the lap record coming into the session, it was Diogo Moreira who initially posted a new benchmark early on in the FP2 session aboard the Italtrans Kalex.
However, Oncu knocked two more tenths off the Brazilian's time in the final minutes before shaving another tenth off his effort on the very next tour.
Behind Moreira, David Alonso bounced right back from his heavy crash during Friday Practice to set the third fastest time, the Colombian ahead of Barry Baltus - who looked strong on long runs - and Alonso Lopez in fifth.
Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez was eighth fastest, while title rivals Aron Canet and Jake Dixon had to make do with tenth and 12th respectively.
