After missing out on the top ten in Free Practice One, Marco Bezzecchi bounced back in the afternoon as he topped the timesheets in the MotoGP Practice session.

Marc Marquez left it late to make his way up the order and secure a Q2 place for Saturday, but he ended up in third place on the timesheets on his factory Ducati.

It was a positive end to the opening day for the factory Honda squad; both the Honda HRC Castrol riders made their way into Q2, with Joan Mir in fourth and Luca Marini in sixth.

Inside the top five was the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider, Fabio di Giannantonio. The Italian ended Free Practice One in fourth, and backed it up with a fifth-place finish in Practice.

Despite topping the timesheets on Friday morning, it was a difficult afternoon for Francesco Bagnaia as he struggled with bike issues at the start of the session but secured a Q2 spot with a seventh-place finish.

Fabio Quartararo was the only Yamaha rider to secure an automatic Q2 spot at the Japanese Grand Prix as he ended the day in eighth place for the factory Monster Energy Yamaha squad.

The second Aprilia rider to finish the afternoon Practice session inside the top ten was the Trackhouse Racing rider, Raul Fernandez.

Completing the top ten was the LCR Honda Castrol rider, Johann Zarco, who secured a Q2 spot with his final lap of the day.
