On Friday afternoon, it was Marco Bezzecchi who topped the MotoGP timesheets with a new Lap Record.
After fears that Marco Bezzecchi would have to miss the Australian Grand Prix, the Italian smashed the MotoGP Lap Record at Phillip Island on Friday afternoon and has declared himself as the clear favourite. However, he will have a double long lap penalty to take on Sunday in the Grand Prix.
Raul Fernandez completed an Aprilia 1-2 in the Friday Practice session as the Trackhouse Racing rider ended the day in second place, behind his factory Aprilia Racing colleague.
The top Ducati rider was the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider, Fabio di Giannantonio. The Italian rider made vast improvements in the afternoon session and has secured a Q2 spot for Saturday.
Monster Energy Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo was inside the top five on Friday afternoon as he ended the day in fourth place and was one of two riders to make their way into Q2.
Rounding out the top five on Friday afternoon was the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP rider, Alex Marquez. The Spaniard was the second Ducati rider to finish inside the top five in the Practice session.
Alex Rins was the second Yamaha rider to finish inside the top ten in the Friday Practice session as he ended the day in sixth place.
The sole Honda rider inside the top ten on Friday afternoon was the Honda HRC Castrol rider, Luca Marini, who ended the day in seventh.
The top KTM rider in the afternoon MotoGP Practice session was the KTM Test Rider, Pol Espargaro, who is standing in for Maverick Vinales in the Red Bull KTM Tech3.
Francesco Bagnaia was able to secure himself a spot in Q2 on Friday afternoon, but the Italian did not make it easy, as he ended the day in ninth place.
Completing the top ten was the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider, Pedro Acosta.
