MotoGP Malaysia, Qualifying Results | Francesco Bagnaia claimed his third pole position of the season

Gold & Goose

Francesco Bagnaia bounced back from a difficult Friday to secure pole position on Saturday morning.

For the first time since his dominant weekend at the Japanese Grand Prix, Francesco Bagnaia will start from pole position as he progressed through Q1 and into Q2 before setting the pole position lap time for the factory Ducati squad.

Alex Marquez will start from the middle of the front row as the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP rider challenged Bagnaia for pole position, but ultimately qualified in second and was 0.016 seconds off of Bagnaia's time.

Completing an all-Ducati front row was the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider, Franco Morbidelli. The Italian was outside of the top five on Friday, but will start from third place for the Sprint Race and Grand Prix.

Heading up the second row on the grid is the 2021 MotoGP World Champion, Fabio Quartararo. The Monster Energy Yamaha rider has been strong over one lap, but admitted on Friday afternoon that his race pace was not very strong.

After ending the Friday Practice session on top of the timesheets, Pedro Acosta could only qualify in the middle of the second row on Saturday morning and will start from fifth place on the grid.

Fermin Aldeguer missed out on an automatic Q2 spot on Friday afternoon, but, like Bagnaia, progressed into Q2 from Q1. The Spaniard then went on to qualify on the second row of the grid in sixth place.

The top Honda rider, Joan Mir, will line up in seventh place on the grid on the third row. After featuring inside the top five on Friday, Mir was unsure of his race pace ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The fifth Ducati rider inside the top ten in Qualifying was the second Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider, Fabio di Giannantonio, who will start from eighth place on the grid in the middle of the third row.

Starting from the rear of the third row of the grid is the LCR Honda Castrol rider, Johann Zarco. The Frenchman was on the pace during Practice on Friday, but his fastest lap in Qualifying only put him ninth on the grid.

Completing the top ten on the grid was the Monster Energy Yamaha rider, Alex Rins. The Spaniard will start from tenth place and at the head of the fourth row.
