Gold & Goose

Alex Marquez was able to top both MotoGP Practice sessions on Friday at the Portuguese Grand Prix.

It was the Alex Marquez show on Friday at the Portuguese Grand Prix, the Malaysian Grand Prix winner topped both Practice sessions on the opening day at Portimao for the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP team.

Pedro Acosta kept the two Ducati riders ahead of him honest, as the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider was only 0.088 seconds behind Marquez and Bagnaia on the timesheets.

Marco Bezzecchi remained inside the top five on Friday afternoon, despite dropping back from second in the morning session; he ended the day in fourth place as the top Aprilia.

The top rider from a Japanese manufacturer was the Honda HRC Castrol rider, Joan Mir. After claiming a podium in Malaysia, the Spaniard continued his strong form in Portugal.

Outside of the top five was the LCR Honda Castrol rider, Johann Zarco. The Frenchman has not finished a Grand Prix inside the top ten since Japan, and will be looking for a positive weekend at Portimao.

Ducati riders took seventh and eighth in the afternoon Practice session, as Fabio di Giannantonio and Fermin Aldeguer put their Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team and BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP machines inside the top ten.

Pol Espargaro continued to impress as Maverick Vinales' replacement rider, as KTM's Test Rider ended the opening day at Portimao in ninth place for the Red Bull KTM Tech3 squad.

Completing the top ten was the MotoGP rookie, Ai Ogura, for the Trackhouse Racing squad.
