The opening session of the weekend for the Moto3 riders was led by the World Championship leader, David Alonso.
After Ivan Ortola won at Silverstone last time out the Moto3 riders are back out on track at the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix.
David Alonso finished second place last time out at Silverstone. However, he has started the Austrian Grand Prix at the top of the pile. The Colombian rider looks destined for Moto2 in 2025 with Aspar, but his focus will be on the Red Bull Ring.
Daniel Holgado led for a lot of the opening session. However, when the chequered flag dropped he was pushed back to second place. The Spaniard has not stood on the podium since the French Grand Prix and will want to be back on the rostrum this weekend.
The BOE Motorsports squad finished in third and fourth place. Joel Kelso led the BOE duo in third, with David Munoz just behind in fourth.
It was announced during the Moto3 session that Ivan Ortola would be moving up to Moto2 in 2025. However, on track, Ortola finished Free Practice in fifth place.
There were two Japanese riders in sixth and seventh place. The Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP rider Tatsuki Suzuki finished in sixth with MT Helmets - MSi rider, Ryusei Yamanaka in seventh.
Red Bull KTM Ajo rider, Jose Antonio Rueda, finished the opening session in eighth place. There will be big pressure on the Spaniard to win at the Red Bull Ring for the Red Bull KTM Team.
Stefano Nepa finished in ninth place this morning on the LEVELUP - MTA KTM machine.
Rounding out the top ten was Colin Veijer. The Dutch rider is set to ride for the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad in Moto2 next season.
The only British rider in the session, Scott Ogden, finished in 12th place as the second-highest Honda rider.
