MotoGP Misano, Free Practice One Results: Martin leads in Bagnaia's backyard, Marquez in second, Espargaro is the highest non-Ducati rider

Gold and Goose

Jorge Martin tops the time sheets in Free Practice One at Misano, with Marc Marquez in second place.

Marc Marquez took an emotional victory last time out at Aragon. Now the Spaniard returns to the scene of his last victory with Honda in 2021. Reigning Champion, Francesco Bagnaia, returns home to Misano for a crucial round of the 2024 season.

The new Championship leader, Jorge Martin, leads the way in Free Practice One at Misano. The Spanish rider is on a run of second-place finishes and will want to win in Bagnaia's backyard this weekend.

Marquez led the way for the majority of the opening Practice session. However, the Spaniard was pipped by Martin late on and ended up finishing in second place.

KTM have their test rider, Pol Espargaro, back in MotoGP this weekend. Just like in Austria Espargaro was right at the sharp end as he finished in third place.

The top Italian rider in Free Practice One was the Prima Pramac Racing rider of Franco Morbidelli. The VR46 Academy rider will have done thousands of laps around Misano and ended the opening session in fourth.

Fabio Quartararo won his MotoGP title at Misano in 2021 and began his weekend on a positive note. The French rider ended Free Practice One in fifth place following on from a test at Misano a few weeks ago.

The top Aprilia rider in Free Practice One was Aleix Espargaro. The whole Aprilia camp had a terrible time at Aragon but a sixth place on Friday morning is positive for Espargaro.

Brad Binder was the second KTM rider inside the top ten as he ended the session in seventh place. Binder was two-tenths behind Espargaro and will try and learn from the test rider before the afternoon Practice.

As usual, Bagnaia has had a slow start to his weekend. The Italian is walking wounded but he ended Free Practice One in eighth place.

Rounding out the top ten were two Spaniards in ninth and tenth. Maverick Vinales finished in ninth place as the second-highest Aprilia. Pedro Acosta was the third KTM in the top ten as he finished in tenth.
