Ranking the 2025 MotoGP rider line-ups: From worst to best

Gold & Goose

With all the riders confirmed for the 2025 MotoGP season, which team has the best and worst lineup?

The 2025 MotoGP season has seen a big shakeup in terms of the rider market. Some established names in the class have changed allegiances in the new year as well as three high profile rookies making their way into the class.

Here are our rankings of the 2025 MotoGP rider lineups, from weakest to strongest.

11th - Honda Factory Racing (Joan Mir & Luca Marini)

A former MotoGP World Champion being in the weakest rider lineup for 2025 is shocking. However, the previous form for the factory Honda MotoGP Team does prove that it is the weakest lineup, which is probably caused by being in possession of the worst bike.

However, Joan Mir and Luca Marini were the bottom two full-time riders in the 2024 Championship. If you combined Mir's 21 points and Marini's 14 points from 2024 they would have finished 18th in the standings compared to their 21st and 22nd places, not a great improvement.

Honda is in a terrible place and Mir's lack of positivity at the end of the 2024 season makes us believe the factory Honda team will be missing again in 2025.

10th - Trackhouse Racing (Raul Fernandez & Ai Ogura)

The Trackhouse Racing and factory Honda lineup could easily be swapped depending on how you look at it. However, in our opinion, we think the duo of Raul Fernandez and Ai Ogura will be better in 2025.

Since entering MotoGP in 2022, Fernandez has not been able to set the world on fire. Whenever the Spaniard finds a strong run of form he backs it up with a poor run of form for four or five race weekends.

The unknown factor in the Trackhouse Racing lineup is the Moto2 World Champion, Ai Ogura. The Japanese rider has the potential to be special in MotoGP, but as of right now, nobody can say for sure.

9th - Prima Pramac Yamaha (Miguel Oliveira & Jack Miller)

For 2025 the Prima Pramac squad has a new rider lineup and a new machine for the new MotoGP season. Their two riders for this season are experienced but have been inconsistent during their careers

Miguel Oliveira was a five-time MotoGP race winner for KTM, but since 2022 he has not stood on a podium. The Portuguese rider has been in MotoGP for six seasons but has only finished inside the top ten in the standings on two occasions.

With Jack Miller, you never know what you are going to get. The Australian can show up and fight at the front or he will struggle and go invisible. Miller's ten years in MotoGP have featured both highs and lows but his recent years at KTM have been indisputably difficult.

8th - LCR Honda (Johann Zarco & Somkiat Chantra)

The LCR Honda rider lineup features one of the most underrated riders from the 2024 season and a rookie that many expect to sink rather than swim in MotoGP.

Johann Zarco arrived at Honda as a full-time rider in 2024 and solidified his position as the top rider for the Japanese manufacturer. The Frenchman was by far the best Honda rider and could continue to help their resurrection.

The part that impacts the LCR Honda rider lineup the most is Somkiat Chantra. The Thai rider has never looked like a MotoGP prospect during his Moto2 career but has been drafted in to replace Takaaki Nakagami. Chantra's time in MotoGP could be rather forgetful if it goes how many expect it to.

7th - Gresini Racing (Alex Marquez & Fermin Aldeguer)

After losing Marc Marquez from their ranks for the 2025 season the ranking of the Gresini Racing Team has drastically reduced.

Alex Marquez will remain with Gresini for a third year after having his best season in MotoGP in 2024. The Spaniard ended the season in eighth, but his performances were overshadowed by his older brother. The younger Marquez brother looks to be on track for another top-ten season, with the potential of cracking into the top seven.

Once again the rookie in the Gresini Racing lineup limits their ranking due to the unknown surrounding him. Fermin Aldeguer could either break into MotoGP and become a superstar or how inconsistency from 2024 will follow him into 2025.

6th - Monster Energy Yamaha (Fabio Quartararo & Alex Rins)

Yamaha have been stuck in a hole since their Championship victory in 2021. However, their rider lineup is still a talented duo of MotoGP race winners.

Fabio Quartararo is one of the most talented riders on the MotoGP grid, but his machine has limited his recent performances. The Frenchman won the title in 2021 and has been out of contention since. Quartararo will most likely not challenge in 2025 but could return to the top ten in the standings.

Alex Rins has had a terrible last two years in MotoGP with Honda and Yamaha. The Spaniard has suffered with several injuries across the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Rins is still a proven MotoGP race winner, but he needs to stay fit to show his true talent in 2025.

5th - Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team (Fabio di Giannantonio & Franco Morbidelli)

The Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team will have their third different rider lineup across the last three years in the 2025 season.

Fabio di Giannantonio arrived in the VR46 squad in 2024 and impressed many with his performances. The Italian will remain with the team for a second season in 2025 and will ride on a factory-spec Ducati. Many expect that Di Giannantonio will be a title contender this upcoming season.

The last four years have been difficult for Franco Morbidelli. The 2021 to 2023 seasons with Yamaha were disastrous and his arrival to Ducati in 2024 looked like he would return to form. However, a devastating preseason crash left the Italian on the back foot at the start of last season. The Italian will remain on a Ducati in 2025 as he arrives in the VR46 squad for the first time in his career.

4th - Red Bull KTM Tech3 (Enea Bastianini & Maverick Vinales)

The satellite KTM team have bolstered their squad for the 2025 MotoGP season. As well as receiving factory machinery and support they will also have factory-level riders this year.

After two years in the factory Ducati team, Enea Bastianini decided to ride for Tech3 in 2025. The Italian never reached his potential with the Italian manufacturer and was shipped out to Austria. If Bastianini can click with the KTM then expect him to fight at the front this year.

Maverick Vinales was the only non-Ducati race winner in 2024 after he won the American Grand Prix with Aprilia. However, he will become a KTM rider this year as he put pen to paper with the Tech3 squad. Vinales has been historically inconsistent over the last six years, but when the conditions are right he is one of the best riders on the grid.

3rd - Red Bull KTM Factory Racing (Brad Binder & Pedro Acosta)

It is easy to argue that across both of their teams, KTM has the most talent for the 2025 season. The Austrian manufacturer's future may be in doubt, but this year is their best chance of winning a MotoGP title.

The 2025 season will be Brad Binder's sixth year in MotoGP and his sixth year in the Factory KTM squad. Throughout his time in MotoGP Binder has blown hot and cold and has never mounted a serious title challenge. But this will have to change this year with the talent that KTM now have in their ranks.

The hottest prospect in all of the MotoGP paddock is Pedro Acosta, and KTM held onto him for 2025. After a year in Tech3, the Spaniard became a KTM Factory Racing rider for his second year in the premier class. After challenging for race wins in his rookie year, and fighting with Binder in the standings the young Spaniard is one to watch this year.

2nd - Aprilia Racing (Jorge Martin & Marco Bezzecchi)

After a disappointing 2024 season Aprilia are looking to right their wrongs with their brand new rider lineup featuring a MotoGP World Champion and a title contender.

After winning the MotoGP title in 2024 with Prima Pramac Ducati, Jorge Martin has become an Aprilia rider for 2025. The Spaniard will want to win Aprilia's first MotoGP title and make Ducati regret not retaining him.

Another former Ducati rider who has decided to switch to Aprilia for 2025 is Marco Bezzecchi. The Italian fought for the title in 2023 in the VR46 Racing Team, but in 2024 he struggled on the Ducati GP23. Bezzecchi will now become a factory MotoGP rider and many believe he will succeed at Aprilia.

1st - Ducati Lenovo Team (Francesco Bagnaia & Marc Marquez)

Was there ever any doubt that the factory Ducati team would top this list as the best rider lineup in MotoGP?

The two-time MotoGP World Champion, Francesco Bagnaia will remain as Ducati's lead rider in 2025. The Italian won them two titles in 2022 and 2023 but lost out last year. Bagnaia will be on the hunt for his third MotoGP crown this season, but his new teammate will be a thorn in his side.

In 2025 the six-time MotoGP Champion, Marc Marquez will arrive in the factory Ducati squad. After a competitive year in the Gresini Racing squad, the Spaniard received a promotion from the bosses at Ducati. Marquez has been chasing his seventh MotoGP title for five years and has his best chance of winning it this season.
