Aron Canet moved to the head of the timesheets in final practice for the Spanish Moto2 at Jerez, the Spaniard turning in a new lap record to out-perform Pedro Acosta and Sam Lowes
With automatic Q2 spots up for grab in the closely-matched field and plenty of time to be gained in the cooler Saturday morning temperatures, the fight was on to see who could secure one of the available 14 spots.
Up at the front though it was Canet - who suffered a fall on Friday - who'd emerge quickest over a single lap, the Pons rider setting a new lap record in the process to get the better of Pedro Acosta.
However, much like Friday, it was the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider that could display the most consistent pace over a longer distance to keep him installed as arguably the favourite in race conditions.
Fastest of all on Friday, Sam Lowes improved his best lap to retain a spot inside the top three, while Albert Arenas - who fell three times on Friday - proved he is quick so long as he stays upright in fourth place.
Alonso Lopez made it four Spaniards inside the top five on home soil come the end of P3, while Jake Dixon kept himself in the mix with the sixth best time.
The biggest mover between sessions, meanwhile, was Sergio Garcia on the second of the Pons bikes as he rose to seventh, ahead of Filip Salac, Somkiat Chantra and COTA pole sitter Celestino Vietti rounding out the top ten.
Of the remaining riders guaranteed to appear in Q2, championship leader Tony Arbolino scraped through in 11th, as did Fermin Aldeguer, Barry Baltus and COTA podium winner Bo Bendsneyder.
Among those who will need to go again in Q1, Lukas Tulovic got closest to Q2 in 15th, while Jeremy Alcoba, Manuel Gonzalez and Ai Ogura were the others who will have to attempt to get one of the four remaining Q2 spots in Q1.
Rory Skinner, meanwhile, bounced back from his P2 crash to end the session 27th.
