Moto2 Japan, Practice One Results: Salac sets a new lap record at Motegi, Canet in second with Ogura in fourth

Gold and Goose

The Moto2 lap record was broken on Friday as Filip Salac set the pace at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Filip Salac rises to the top at the Japanese Grand Prix as he sets the pace on Friday at Motegi. The Elf Marc VDS Racing rider has had a difficult 2024 season, but he might have found something on Friday in Japan.

After winning in Indonesia last week Aron Canet has carried his form to Japan as he ends Day One in second. Canet is 52 points behind the Championship leader and could put together a late-season challenge for the title.

Marcos Ramirez had an impressive Friday as he ended the day in third place on the time sheets. The Spanish rider has not stood on the podium in 2024 but will be aiming for a trip to the rostrum this weekend.

Championship leader, Ai Ogura, ends his opening day in fourth place overall. The Japanese rider will want a strong result at his home round as he hunts down the Moto2 Championship.

After getting disqualified in Indonesia after crossing the line after getting his best result Izan Guevara has had a strong Friday in Japan. The Spanish rider has struggled throughout 2024 but the flyaways have suited him as he ended up in fifth.

Red Bull KTM Ajo rider, Deniz Oncu, ends his opening day at Motegi in sixth place. The Turkish rider has never visited Japan as a Moto2 rider and has looked strong from the word go.

The second Boscoscuro rider inside the top ten was Fermin Aldeguer in seventh place on the time sheets.

British rider, Jake Dixon, ended Day One at the Japanese Grand Prix in eighth place. Dixon has struggled in recent races and will just want to end his season on a high note.

Joe Roberts and Tony Arbolino complete the top ten as the American and Italian end Friday in ninth and tenth places.
