Jake Dixon is back on pole position for the first time since Aragon in mixed conditions at Motegi.
After two difficult Grand Prix weekends in a row, Jake Dixon has bounced back with a pole position in Japan. The British rider made the most of the difficult conditions to take his second pole position of the season.
The surprise on the front row is Zonta van den Goorbergh, who will start from second place on the grid. The Dutch rider is 22nd in the Championship standings but was boosted by the tricky conditions.
Completing the front row is Aron Canet in third place on the Fantic Racing machine. The Spanish rider has been putting together a late Championship challenge in Moto2 as he is not making it easy for the Championship leader.
Joe Roberts heads the second row of the grid as he starts from fourth place. In the middle of the second row is Izan Guevara who has a point to prove after losing his best Moto2 result last time at Indonesia.
In sixth place was Diogo Moreira on the Italtrans Racing machine. The Brazilian rider was missing last time at Indonesia but is back in action in Japan.
With his teammate on the front row, Barry Baltus will start from the head of the third row. The Belgian rider stood on the podium in Qatar but has gone missing for the rest of the year.
The top Boscoscuro rider on the grid for Sunday Alonso Lopez starts from eighth place on the grid.
The Championship leader, Ai Ogura, will have to start his home Grand Prix from ninth place. The Japanese rider has his closest rivals ahead of him on the grid so will need to put in a valiant effort to extend his lead.
Rounding out the top ten is Tony Arbolino in tenth place. The Italian rider has been back at the front in the recent Grands Prix as he could make his way through the pack on Sunday.
