Moto2 Austria, Race: Vietti returns to winning ways, Dixon gets his third podium in a row, disaster for Garcia

Gold and Goose

Celestino Vietti returns to winning ways at the Red Bull Ring. However, Sergio Garcia finished down in 14th.

After standing on the podium last time out at Silverstone Celestino Vietti started the Austrian Grand Prix from pole position. Joining the Italian on the front row were Aron Canet and Sergio Garcia.

From the word go it was domination for Celestino Vietti. The Italian rider last won at the Red Bull Ring in 2023. After an inconsistent season in the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad, Vietti is finally back to race-winning ways.

The SpeedUp Racing Team had been struggling this weekend. But Alonso Lopez turned it around on race day. The Spaniard withstood the pressure from behind and held onto another podium place.

Jake Dixon may not have been able to win two races in a row, but he was back on the podium again. The British rider is back on form after a tough start to the 2024 season.

After a last-lap battle with Dixon Aron Canets podium hopes fell apart. The Spanish rider had been in second or third for the majority of the race. However, he had to settle for fourth place in Austria.

Another rider who has struggled in the 2024 season is Tony Arbolino. However, the Italian is also getting back to good form as he finished fifth place at the Red Bull Ring.

Marcos Ramirez has gone about his business very quietly this weekend. The Spanish rider has floated under the radar and got a sixth-place finish.

South African rider, Darryn Binder is getting to grips with a Moto2 bike. A seventh-place finish in Austria continues his good form in 2024.

It sounds like Somkiat Chantra is MotoGP bound for the 2025 season. However, with half a season still to go in Moto2, the Thai rider finished eighth in the Austrian Grand Prix.

After seemingly losing out on a MotoGP ride for 2025 Joe Roberts has not been at his best in Austria. But he still managed a ninth-place finish after a difficult weekend.

Filip Salac is searching for a Moto2 ride for the 2025 season and a tenth-place finish will put him on the shopping list for a few teams.

The Championship leader, Sergio Garcia, seemed destined to extend his lead over the Moto2 field with his team-mate, Ai Ogura out with injury. However, the Spaniard had a terrible race and finished in 14th only scoring two points.
