Title tip Fermin Aldeguer asserts authority to top 2024 Moto2 pre-season test in Jerez

Gold & Goose

Fermin Aldeguer consolidated his burgeoning status as hot favourite for the 2024 Moto2 World Championship title as he picked up where he left from last season by concluding pre-season testing with the fastest time.

A five-time Moto2 race winner in 2023 - four of which came in the final four rounds of the season - while Aldeguer has found himself in the spotlight during the winter amid speculation he will join Ducati in MotoGP for 2025, he'd get his head down to shake out on top aboard the SpeedUp Boscoscuro.

The three-day test in Spain precedes the start of the 2024 Moto2 season in Qatar, where Aldeguer will attempt to repeat his victory around the Lusail International Circuit in November.

He will likely have his work cut out though with just one second covering the top eighteen riders on the combined timesheets.

With the vast majority of quick laps coming on the third and final day [Friday], Joe Roberts completed a strong pre-season test programme with the second fastest lap - only four hundredths shy of Aldeguer - on the American Racing Kalex, while last week's Portimao pace setter Manuel Gonzalez rounded out the top three.

With just 0.3s covering the top ten alone, Tony Arbolino (Marc VDS Racing), Aron Canet (Fantic Racing) and Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) ensured an experienced top six at the flag.

Marcos Ramirez consolidated American Racing's encouraging week in seventh, followed by Alonso Lopez (SpeedUp) in eighth, Zonta van den Goorbergh (RW Racing) and Ai Ogura (MT Helmets-MSI).

Having run inside the top ten on days one and two, Jake Dixon would ultimately conclude his pre-season preparations in 12th on the rebranded CFMoto Aspar machine, while top rookie honours went to Moto3 graduate Deniz Once on the Red Bull KTM Ajo Kalex.
