Fermin Aldeguer held onto his place at the summit of the leaderboard at at the conclusion of Practice 2 as he led a Boscoscuro 1-2 from Ai Ogura, while Jake Dixon looks poised ahead of qualifying in third.

Having lapped the Circuit of The Americas venue at record pace on Friday, Aldeguer was again in fine form on Saturday morning, comfortably lowering his own benchmark to 2m 07.543secs on the Speed Up Racing Boscoscuro.

The future Pramac Ducati MotoGP rider was, however, run a lot closer in this session with Ai Ogura on the MT Helmets-MSI Boscoscuro a mere 0.026s adrift of the top spot after making strong overnight gains.

A further two tenths back was Dixon, the Briton ramping up his momentum ahead of what will be his first Moto2 qualifying session of the season having been forced to sit out Qatar and Portugal through injury.

Home favourites American Racing had an eventful session after Joe Roberts - the only US rider on the Moto2 grid - dropped his Kalex early on, an accident that threatened to leave him outside of the automatic Q2 qualifying spots.

However, he collected himself and regrouped to ascend to fifth in the closing stages, Roberts sat right behind team-mate Marcos Ramirez, the Spaniard impressing again in fourth.

Alonso Lopez joined Aldeguer in ensuring both Speed Up bikes held down the top six, while Manuel Gonzalez, Jeremy Alcoba, Portuguese Moto2 winner and championship leader Aron Canet and Sergio Garcia filled the remainder of the top ten positions to ensure their safe passage into Q2.

They will be joined by the remainder of the 14 direct qualifiers, Barry Baltus, Dennis Foggia, Tony Arbolino and Bo Bendsneyder.
